The Power of Right Clicking: Part 1

quicktechtips_right_click_1

I’m sure you have noticed that your mouse has both a left and a right click button. We left click all of the time, but have you ever taken the time to right click? Chances are that if you’re fairly new to computers or just use them for the bare minimum that you need to, you probably never have used your right click.

I know, trying something new can be a little scary. But let me assure you now, you will not break anything by right clicking. So read on and try some of these tricks.

This is a bit of a generalization, but think of it this way: Left Clicking is for Actions and Right Clicking is for Options. In other words, you Left Click to do something and you Right Click to see what you can do.

For instance, as I’m typing this in to my blog entry field, if I Right Click I see the following options:

  • Undo
  • Cut
  • Copy
  • Paste
  • Delete
  • Select All

How cool is that? Instead of going up to the menu where I will find these same options, they are available to me right here by Right Clicking.

Go ahead and highlight this sentence. Now Right Click. See all of those options you have? Do you see how helpful this can be?

That’s it til Part 2 of The Power of Right Clicking. Practice, practice, practice, and remember you can’t break anything by Right Clicking, so don’t be afraid.
