Five Awesome iPhone Apps for Dining Out

American humorist Calvin Trillin once joked, “The most remarkable thing about my mother is that for 30 years she served the family nothing but leftovers. The original meal has never been found.”

Eating leftovers is all well and good, but sometimes you just want to go out for dinner. If you’re addicted to dining out, these handy apps can make your experience all the more enjoyable.

1. MyPref

MyPref is a great little app that finds restaurants close to your current location. Additionally, you can also look up restaurants by name or style of cuisine. The app includes full menus and prices for most restaurants, and can also track dishes you’ve liked at restaurants in the past.

2. Restaurant Nutrition

Featuring over 250 restaurants and 60,000 food items, this app is a must-download for any food fan watching their weight. There is a ton of calorie info for popular restaurant chains, as well as information about potential allergy triggers that are in a certain dish. If you’re a member of Weight Watchers, there’s even a Points Plus calculator you can make use of.

3. Savored

Savored is sort of like Priceline, but for restaurants. The app hooks you up with reservations at top restaurants that have holes in their reservation books. You can eat for 40 percent off at top restaurants in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and DC. With uncapped savings on your entire bill, there’s no reason not to download this app.

4. Happy Hours

If you love half-price appetizers or cheap pints of beer, Happy Hours is an app that tells you about the happy hour deals in your area. While it’s far from comprehensive, this app is a great way to learn about new deals and find new places to relax after a rough day at work.

5. Evernote Food

You probably already use Evernote for notes and jotting down random bits of information. Now there’s an Evernote tool that’s all about dining, food, and recipes. In addition to finding cool restaurants near you, this app can help you organize recipes you want to try. And of course, there is a robust note-taking setup that will let you record all of your food experiences for future reference.
